Is Fall Guys Dying?

Fall Guys - Gameplay Trailer | PS4 - YouTube

Is Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout dying or a dying video game? First for those who don't know Fall Guys launched last month to knockout sales and immense popularity. Big YouTube personalities such as PewdiePie, Mr Beast, and DrDisrespect went on to popularize the game by doing game play streams and videos on it. This cute, colorful, multiplayer game went on to quickly sell over 7 million copies on Steam and became the most downloaded game on the PlayStation Plus store. With these kind of sales numbers it is hard to see the game loosing steam or popularity any time soon.

For those who are new to the game it is a platformer game where you take control of a cute little jelly bean looking guy and try to avoid the obstacles in your way and make it to the end of the level. There are multiple rounds with a battle royal theme of knocking out players at each round until only one player remains. It sounds like a simple concept but it is incredibly fun to play.

A mobile version of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is in the works, but only in China - The Verge

But what do the numbers say, the statistics. Is Fall Guys loosing popularity?Well most games follow the trend of having their highest player counts usually during the first week of the game releasing then this number falls over time. Fall Guys, during the first few weeks of release would hold a Steam player count of 150,000 players at any given time of day. That is really really good being right below Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 in terms of ranking and charts. As of September 12, 2020 around a month after release the player count has dropped a bit to around 100,000 players at any given time of day; only going up and down by a small amount periodically.

People are worried and who could blame them as this is a multiplayer game and they are worried about being able to find players to play with or maybe they haven't pulled the trigger and bought the game yet and are worried about the game dying or loosing popularity. While I or any of us can't predict the future, there is good reason to believe that Fall Guys will stay popular for the foreseeable future. The pessimists said a month ago that the game would die in a month, yet here we are a month later and the game is still flying high with it's player count. There is excitement in the air for season 2's release when more mini games will be added to the current 25 games. Fans are excited and eagerly awaiting the update. Season 2 will again revive the player base and add more players as well as returning players. From the looks of it Fall Guys is the next big game, the next big hit in the video game industry. And with the number of people who have purchased the game even if the player base dropped by half (only as an example) there would still be an immense amount of people playing. Another aspect to consider is that many people have already spent money on the game so they have an incentive to keep playing to get their money's worth especially to see what the season 2 update brings as well as the next seasons.

No Fall Guys is not dying and will not die anytime soon. Thank you for reading. If you liked the article and would like to read more on great gaming topics and news stories like these please subscribe to the Saturday Morning Gaming email newsletter at the top of the screen.

Fall Guys Is Not A Fad

Last month a new game was released by Devolver Digital called Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. A colorful little multiplayer party game with mini-games where you are a Fall Guy competing in little games with others that involve moving on platforms and avoiding obstacles. Fall Guys has broken many records and has become incredibly popular thou. It has sold 7 million copies on Steam and is now the most downloaded game on PlayStation Plus. It is incredible how a small indie game has been able to achieve such numbers and such fame. Twitch has also been a platform where the game has rose in popularity and spiraled the game into stardom. Twitch streamers have been streaming the game nonstop with average viewer counts in the hundreds of thousand at any given time.  Which brings me to the fact that many people have been saying that Fall Guys is a fad game and will fall away in a month. Well a month later and the game is still going strong with 150,000 average player count on Steam at any give...
